Trail Mix

Posted on March 7, 2007. Filed under: Snacks, chocolate, dessert, fruit, nuts, sweets |

Did you know you can make your own trail mix with better ingredients for a lot less than the pre-bagged stuff?  It’s tastier too.  There’s nothing I hate more than getting a bag of trail mix with stale nuts or rock hard fruit.  Yuck!

This is my personal favorite as far as trail mix recipes go.  Obviously, use your own ingredients if you don’t care for mine.

1 lb salted, roasted cashews/peanuts/pecans or a mixture totaling approx 1#.
1 bag Ghiradelli milk chocolate chips

1 small bag mixed, dried fruit/berries (Welch’s actually makes a rather good mix with green raisins, cherries, cranberries and blueberries.)

Place all ingredients in an airtight container and shake until mixed.  Enjoy!

Notes:

This barely fits into the category of ‘healthy’ but it’s loads better for you than a candy bar and while there is a lot of sugar from the chocolate chips and the fruit you’re also getting a lot of good fats from the nuts.  This is great to curb those chocolate cravings, but should be eaten sparingly all the same.

Nice :) . Nothing quite as good as trail mix to provide that snack fix on the move…
